Graphicus, Chep-i-fy!

There is no magic spell to shout or wand to wave for making graphics. Though pretty much everything goes through the computer, it’s not uncommon for me to look for a simpler, more authentic result using a real-world approach. Here are a few shots from over the years of me saying, “that’s it, I’ll go and do it LIVE!”

Tripods aren’t permitted in subway stations or platforms, so I made my own hot-glued-together tripod-LIKE stack of boxes to place my camera on when shooting long-exposure backplates for my digital billboard examples.

Taking pictures of digital billboards in the subways. “Goodbye, cardboard tripod, and we thank you.”

“We need to make it look like it was written in ketchup and mustard.”

So I wrote everything in ketchup and mustard.

It took a lot of takes. A LOT.

I actually had crayons in my drawer.

Rock made from egg carton cardboard. Looks so good!

Detailing my daughter Abby’s dollhouse. I used 4.00+ magnification glasses from Duane Reade to see the small stuff - I blame them on the fact that I now need to wear glasses to read.

“I need more breeze!”

“ACTUALLY, the color fidelity in this digital billboard is due to the iPhone that took the picture! It looked great in real life!”

truTV’s Michael Carbonaro celebrated the season premiere of his show with a cake party and Abby stopped by to meet him in person.

“Hey Mosley, what sneaker size are you?”

Abby being my assistant shooting some greenscreen for an Impractical Jokers promo.

No one told me my pants were so baggy.

Lights? Check. Fan? Check. Fluttering cash in the wind? Done.

Keeping playsand wet so I could draw letters with my finger.

Hand drawing frames for the Adam Ruins Everything ReAnimated History banner.

Having fun on the set of Paid Off.

Writing the letters multiple times so the final result looks natural and not copy-pasted.

8½ x 11 letter sized paper acting as a diffuser. Yes, I’m using a piece of green cardstock to key a …green… piece of garland. I know.

We had one bag of snow which made a patch 4 square feet to work with.

Boots and fake snow for a Santas in the Barn digital billboard.

I love my color checker.
